Jersey's flats diapers
The thinnest of the three fabrics. The Jersey is popular with those who are looking for the thinnest possible solution. To the touch, the fabric is smooth on both sides. Due to the tighter, more compact weave of the fibers, this type of fabric offers excellent fluid retention. That said it will have less tendency to leak by compression. On the other hand, due to its grammage and its often lower thickness, it generally offers less absorption capacity in terms of the quantity of liquid.
Frequent use: single layer for day use, double layer for the night for normal to medium wetters, triple layer will be recommended for the night for very large wetters.
We can find the following flats diapers in this fabric:
Classique | bamboo, hemp & spandex |
Chaton | bamboo, cotton & spandex |
Poulette | bamboo & spandex |
French Terry's flat diapers (in between)
Mid-weight, French terry is probably the most popular type of fabric due to its softness and more than respectable absorbency. To the touch, it is smooth on one side and slightly curly on the other (a bit like terrycloth). Its curls give it a great absorption capacity, similar to terrycloth. The lightness of the fabric makes it very comfortable to wear.
Frequent use: as daytime solution try a single for all types of wetters. Double should be used at night for large and very large wetters. Some small wetters also love them at night, combine with a small booster would make it the perfect solution.
We can find the following flats diapers in this fabric:
Pitchounne | bamboo, cotton & spandex |
Choupette | lyocell, organic cotton & spandex |
Biquette | bamboo, merino wool & spandex |
Lapinou (patterns) | bamboo, cotton & spandex |
Flat fleece layers (thickest)
Fleece is literally like the softness of a hoodie. Europeans know it as the sweatshirt. Thicker than jersey and French terry, the fleece is smoother on one side and soft has a baby rabbit's belly on the other. It has the advantage of being super absorbent and super soft. Everybody love's it for its coziness.
Frequent use: single use at night for normal wetters. Double should be used for Olympic wetters (be careful because it's quite thick!). Some people even use it as a blanket.
We can find the following flats diapers in this fabric:
Cocotte | bamboo, cotton & spandex |
Chérie | lyocell, organic cotton & spandex |
Chérubine | bamboo, merino wool & spandex |
And Coco's flats diapers ?
The Coco's flat diapers are the novelty that makes people talk! They are located halfway between the flat and the patterned prefold. It is therefore the perfect solution to combine the practical side of the plate with the beauty of the prefold while keeping as much slenderness as possible! Why do we love them? This pretty flat combines comfort, absorption and fantasy. The patterned band gives it an extra thickness for absorption while looking beautiful! This can be made up of several different weaving and compositions.
The Qualities and the Weaknesses of the Different Fibers
Hemp
Ecological, excellent retention, absorbent (6 times more than cotton), breathable, antibacterial, resistant.
Little elastic, less soft.
Bamboo
Soft, absorbent (4 times more than cotton), hypoallergenic, biodegradable.
Its transformation process requires the use of chemicals, it is no longer antibacterial.
Cotton
Gives tone to fabrics, absorbent, hypoallergenic, breathable, flexible, easy to maintain.
Tendency to shrink, dyes fade over time, brittle, sensitive to moisture (it quickly develops mold if improperly stored).
Lyocell (or Tencel)
Very soft, eco-friendly (made from wood pulp), breathable, durable, absorbent, biodegradable, antibacterial, flexible.
More expensive, color fixing more difficult.
Merino wool
Breathable, soft, good absorption, quick-drying, wrinkle-resistant, recyclable and biodegradable, resistant to bad odors.
More expansive.
Spandex
Stretchable (up to 600%), allows fabrics to regain their shape easily, dries quickly.
Synthetic fiber, fragile.
