Merino wool, a gift of nature

Wool is a natural and renewable resource endowed with exceptional characteristics, to say the least. Merino wool has all these characteristics in addition to being soft, ultralight and extremely comfortable thanks to its particularly long and fine fibers. These attributes make it a material of choice for the manufacture of clothing, especially for diaper covers.

The benefits of merino wool

It evacuates moisture and facilitates thermoregulation of the body

Did you know that wool is not only comfortable in winter, but also helps regulate our temperature and humidity throughout the year? Contrary to popular belief, wool is not only used by our grandmothers to make socks to warm our little frozen feet in winter. It allows excellent thermoregulation of temperature in both hot and cold seasons thanks to its particular properties.

In fact, wool fibers allow the textile to "breathe" through their hydrophilic structure which absorbs water and their hydrophobic surface which repels it. So when it's hot, the fibers absorb moisture vapors from your body and evaporate them outside the fabric, keeping you cool. When it's cold, these moisture vapors instead condense inside the fiber, releasing heat and keeping you warm.

Because of its moisture wicking and temperature regulating properties, merino wool is particularly popular for the manufacture of washable diaper covers. These dry very quickly and wick away the moisture caused by a molded diaper, allowing your child's body to benefit from a feeling of freshness and dry effect. Wool can even absorb up to 30% of its own weight in water without actually appearing wet. Pulp diaper covers, while having certain breathable properties, do not regulate the temperature like wool diaper covers do.

It has antimicrobial and deodorant properties

Merino wool has natural antimicrobial and deodorant properties, which means it is able to repel unwanted odors thanks to its moisture wicking properties. If used as a diaper cover, you can easily imagine its benefits ;) In addition, wool diaper covers do not need to be washed daily unless they are really soiled or smelly. The antimicrobial and deodorant properties of wool make it possible to space out the washes of one to four weeks if the wool has been previously lanolized (lanolin is naturally secreted by sheep and provides natural waterproofing to the wool).

It is more durable and requires little maintenance

Wool is a fiber that is 6 times stronger than cotton and requires less maintenance than synthetic fibers or cotton. It is difficult for dirt to become embedded in it and it does not require daily maintenance. In addition, its natural elasticity allows it to be machine washed in cold water and air dried or at very low temperature. It won't shrink like Grandma's beautiful wool sweater that was accidentally thrown in the dryer. Not to mention that the wool is almost wrinkle-resistant!

It is a renewable and biodegradable fiber that comes from natural sources

Unfortunately, synthetic fibers like polyester come from the petrochemical industry. Unlike pulp diaper cover, merino wool is produced from grass, water and fresh air. The sheep freely graze the grass of the hills while delivering a crop of fleece once or twice a year, allowing us to benefit from a natural, renewable and biodegradable textile gem.

Merino wool and washable diapers

Merino wool is undoubtedly a first choice material in the making of washable diaper covers. Even more than a simple diaper cover, merino wool allows you to transform a woolen garment into a diaper cover, offering you a magnificent range of products for the greatest comfort of your little ones.
